"Inclusion is about creating environments where difference isn't a barrier or a reason to be left out, but a genuine contribution to something richer and more beautiful than any one of us could be alone."
I'm currently completing a Higher Degree by Research at the University of Sydney, specialising in emotion regulation. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Amsterdam, which has been recognised by the Australian Psychology Society as equivalent to a 4-year APAC-accredited sequence of study in Australia. My recent role as a Research Assistant at the University of Sydney marks my first formal clinical experience, and I'm excited to be bringing everything I've studied into practice.
This is the beginning of my clinical journey, and I'm embracing it wholeheartedly. Before stepping into this role, my direct experience with children came through years of tutoring students aged 6–16, babysitting children as young as two months, and mentoring young people through university transitions. These experiences gave me a real foundation in connecting with kids across different ages and needs.
Honestly, connecting with children has alway come easy to me. From babysitting to tutoring, I've spent years finding that easy, natural connection with little ones. When you pair that with a deep love of psychology and understanding how people think, feel, and grow, the path writes itself. Working with children with additional needs feels like the most meaningful place where those two paths meet.
Inclusion, to me, means that every person's individuality has the space to shine, not despite what makes them different, but because of it. It's about creating environments where difference isn't a barrier or a reason to be left out, but a genuine contribution to something richer and more beautiful than any one of us could be alone.
Acting was my world. I performed in theatre productions and musicals for years, there's something about storytelling and stepping into a character that I absolutely loved. I think that early experience of expressing yourself, being seen, and connecting with an audience quietly shaped how I engage with people to this day.
